Scott told Variety that the chat, named "Tortured Man Club," was a brief idea consisting of just three texts. Fans speculated that Taylor's album title was a dig at her ex-boyfriend Joe Alwyn, who revealed in 2022 that a mutual friend created the WhatsApp group with him and Scott's pal Paul Mescal.
