University of Michigan researchers develop bacteria-enhanced electrodes to bypass costly gas separation for CO2 recycling.

University of Michigan researchers suggest that a costly gas separation step may not be necessary for recycling CO2 from air and industrial plants. New kinds of electrodes, enhanced with a coating of bacteria, can skip this step, as they seem less sensitive to impurities in air and flue gases. This new technology could make transforming CO2 emissions into valuable products, such as biofuels and pharmaceuticals, less costly.
