UNICEF urges increased HPV vaccination for girls aged 9-14 in Nigeria to combat cervical cancer.

UNICEF urges increased awareness and advocacy for Human Papillomavirus (HPV) vaccination, particularly for girls aged 9-14, to combat cervical cancer. Cervical cancer is the second most common cancer affecting women in Nigeria, with 7,968 deaths recorded in 2020. UNICEF aims to vaccinate at least 80% of girls aged 9-14 by December 2024, and the Lagos State Primary Health Care Board plans to achieve routine HPV coverage of at least 69% for girls aged 9 by December 2025.
