Uganda has temporarily shut down two hydropower plants due to a floating island of weeds moving towards the installations. The Nalubaale and Kira dams on the Nile River were affected, causing supply disruptions in the Kampala Metropolitan and surrounding areas. In 2020, a similar incident led to a nationwide power blackout when floating weeds impacted the Nalubaale power plant.
