New Zealand plans a 6.6% military spending cut, despite armed forces dealing with ageing equipment, personnel shortages, and ambitions for a larger regional role. The proposed defense spending will decrease to NZ$4.95 billion ($3.03 billion) by June 2025, down from NZ$5.3 billion this year. The reduction will put NZ's defense spending at 0.9% of GDP, compared to 1% currently.
