Creative Scotland funded a theatre project with real sex, then withdrew funding after breach of contract.
Scotland's arts body, Creative Scotland, funded a theatre project involving real sex after admitting it was aware of the explicit nature of the show. The Rein project, which aimed to showcase pioneering Scottish creativity, was awarded £84,555 in January 2024, despite plans for "genital contact" and a "sex party" being outlined in the application. Creative Scotland has since withdrawn the funding and sought reimbursement, stating the project breached the contract.
