China plans to create the world's largest national park system by 2035, protecting 30% of key wildlife species by 2021.

China aims to establish the world's largest national park system by 2035, protecting nearly 30% of its key terrestrial wildlife species. In 2021, China established its first batch of national parks covering 230,000 sq km, and designated 49 candidate areas as national park space, protecting around 1.1 million sq km. This has led to an increase in wildlife populations, such as the Hainan gibbon and Tibetan antelope.
