The US Office of Special Counsel tightens Hatch Act enforcement, clarifying rules for White House personnel and referring violations to the Merit Systems Protection Board.
The US Office of Special Counsel (OSC) has issued new guidelines to tighten enforcement of the Hatch Act, which limits political activities of federal employees. The update aims to clarify rules on political activities of White House personnel and the display of political items in federal workplaces. The OSC will now refer cases of wrongdoing to the Merit Systems Protection Board, which can deliver punishment, rather than giving the president sole discretion on whether to pursue violations.
