Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman claims Bihar's per capita income would have doubled without misgovernance under Lalu Yadav-led RJD government.

Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman claims that if there was no misgovernance during the Lalu Yadav-led RJD government, Bihar's per capita income would have more than doubled. She noted that in 1991, Bihar's per capita income was higher than Odisha's, but by 2002, Bihar's income had dropped by 32-33%, while Odisha's per capita income had increased by 31%. Sitharaman attributes Bihar's recent growth to good governance and strong law and order.
