Syria's First Lady, Asma Assad, has been diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia, a form of cancer affecting white blood cells, according to a statement from President Bashar al-Assad's office. As a result, she will undergo a specialized treatment protocol requiring social distancing and will temporarily withdraw from all direct engagements. Born in the UK in 1975, Asma had previously battled breast cancer in 2019.
