Stormont Justice Minister Naomi Long expresses concern over allegations of police surveillance of journalists in Northern Ireland.

Stormont Justice Minister, Naomi Long, has expressed concern over allegations of police surveillance of journalists in Northern Ireland. A hearing at the Investigatory Powers Tribunal in London revealed claims that police in the region spied on the phone data of journalists classified as "troublemakers". Long stated that journalism is not a crime and a free press is critical to having a free society, and that she has spoken to PSNI Chief Constable Jon Boutcher and will speak to Secretary of State Chris Heaton-Harris about the matter. The PSNI Chief Constable is taking the allegations seriously and is considering other mechanisms to provide reassurance.
