Rolls-Royce SMR and the University of Sheffield are establishing a £2.7m manufacturing and testing facility in South Yorkshire, UK. The facility will produce prototype modules for small modular reactors (SMRs) and is part of a wider £15m package to de-risk and underpin the Rolls-Royce SMR programme. SMRs are considered a clean energy source, easier to scale and more affordable than larger nuclear power plants. Each Rolls-Royce SMR could provide low-carbon electricity to power a million homes for over 60 years.
