Prime Minister Anthony Albanese defends his government's plan to overhaul the $44bn National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS), following pushback from state premiers. The government aims to make the NDIS sustainable, with economist Bruce Bonyhady, a key architect of the scheme, supporting the reform. NDIS Minister Bill Shorten has pledged to get the NDIS "back on track" and rein in spiralling costs, which are projected to rise by $14.4bn over the next four financial years if not reformed.
