2024: Minnesota BCA establishes Violent Crime Reduction Unit, making 112 arrests, seizing 66 firearms, 2,650 fentanyl pills, and 9.
The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension (BCA) established the Violent Crime Reduction Unit in 2024, building on the previous Violent Crime Reduction Support Initiative. Funded by the state legislature, the unit includes 14 BCA agents, a K-9 for firearms detection, two criminal intelligence analysts, two crime victim/witness coordinators, and 11 task force officers from local partner agencies. Since its launch, the unit has made 112 arrests, confiscated 66 firearms, 2,650 fentanyl pills, and 9.2 pounds of meth.
