Ahead of Hajj, CDC alerts doctors to look out for meningococcal disease tied to travel to Saudi Arabia.

The US CDC advises doctors to monitor for meningococcal disease linked to Saudi Arabia travel, as 12 cases have been linked to the Umrah pilgrimage to Mecca since April. Of the 12 cases, five are in US residents, four in France, and three in the UK. The Hajj pilgrimage is scheduled for June 14-19. Meningococcal vaccines are recommended for Saudi Arabia travelers, particularly pilgrims.
