Japanese study finds matcha green tea extract inhibits P. gingivalis growth, reducing gum disease.
Matcha green tea extract may inhibit the growth of P. gingivalis, a bacterium causing gum disease, according to a Japanese study. Lab experiments found matcha extract killed 99% of P. gingivalis cells within 2 hours, and a human trial of 45 people with gum disease showed lower levels of bacteria in saliva with matcha mouthwash. Matcha's potential for preventing and treating periodontitis is supported.
