COREN President links rising building collapses in Nigeria to increased cement prices, prompting House of Reps committee investigation.
The President of COREN, Prof Sadiq Abubakar, claims that the increasing cases of building collapse in Nigeria are directly linked to the arbitrary hike in cement prices. The House of Representatives Joint Committee on Solid Minerals, Industry, Commerce, and Special Duties is investigating the price increase, with the Chairman of the Cement Manufacturers Association of Nigeria summoned to address the issue. The committee has criticized the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission for not doing enough to protect cement consumers. The cement manufacturers have been accused of hiding behind a court injunction to avoid the ongoing investigation.
