Mohammad Mokhber becomes interim president following Ebrahim Raisi's death.

The 68-year-old Mohammad Mokhber, Iran's first vice president, is expected to become interim president following the death of Ebrahim Raisi in a helicopter crash. Under Iran's constitution, Mokhber, who is seen as close to Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, will lead a three-person council alongside the speaker of parliament and the head of the judiciary. Their mission is to organize a new presidential election within 50 days of the president's death. Born on September 1, 1955, Mokhber became Iran's first vice president in 2021 when Raisi was elected president. He was also part of a team of Iranian officials who visited Moscow in October and agreed to supply surface-to-surface missiles and drones to Russia's military.
