Top Japanese companies agreed to an average 5.58% wage hike in annual labour talks, marking the highest level in 33 years, according to preliminary data from the Keidanren business lobby. The wage increase, which included regular salary increases and base increases, exceeded last year's rate of 3.99%. The data was compiled for 89 companies in 16 industries that had reported to Keidanren by the date.
