Sir David Attenborough's childhood inspiration, Bradgate Park, is set to become a national nature reserve. Along with Swithland Wood, the combined 439-hectare site in Leicestershire houses kingfishers, rare spiders, ancient fossils, and fallow and red deer. The park is also the birthplace of Lady Jane Grey, Queen of England for nine days, and contains unique Precambrian fossils.
