Orange Sky Aotearoa launches mobile laundry, shower, and conversation service for Hawke's Bay homeless, supported by local councils and volunteers, amid housing deprivation and damaged homes due to severe weather.
Orange Sky Aotearoa, a non-profit offering free mobile laundry, showers, and conversation for the homeless, is launching its first Hawke's Bay service in August, supported by local volunteers and Napier & Hastings city councils. The service aims to support families in Te Matau-a-Māui/Hawke's Bay, where 4.3% of New Zealand's severely housing deprived population reside. The launch comes after severe weather events in 2023 left over 1,600 Napier homes unsafe, with 287 still unfit for habitation.
