Chilean equestrian rider Jaime Bittner cannot compete in the Paris Olympics after his mare, Eden, died from an internal infection. Bittner had secured his place in the Games following national championship success in December, but equestrian regulations require both rider and horse to qualify, so no alternative Chilean pair can replace them. The Chilean Olympic delegation now consists of 22 athletes.
