Highway 178 is closed at the mouth of Kern River Canyon after a vehicle crashed off the highway and into the Kern River, resulting in at least one person suffering major injuries. The crash occurred at around 12:30 p.m. near the mouth of the canyon, with the SUV going down 200 feet into the river. The eastbound and westbound lanes of Highway 178 are closed, and the road is expected to be closed for an extended period while the vehicle is recovered.
