UBC President Benoit-Antoine Bacon maintains university neutrality on Gaza conflict amid protester demands.
University of British Columbia (UBC) President Benoit-Antoine Bacon has told pro-Palestinian protesters that the school must remain neutral on the Gaza conflict. In response to demands by the protest encampment on the Vancouver campus, Bacon said that the university cannot presume to speak for everyone, as professors and students hold a broad range of opinions. If the university took a position, it would undermine the rights of people who hold different views to express themselves. UBC hopes for a ceasefire and a lasting peace in the Middle East.
