Energy Minister Chris Bowen plans to announce a new power price ruling to save households hundreds of dollars annually on electricity bills. Energy regulators will determine the maximum prices retailers can charge customers on standard contracts for the next 12 months, with new "default market offers" at $1773 for NSW and $1643 for Victoria. Last December, one in two households were likely to roll over onto a more expensive contract than the default offer.
