Prime Minister Narendra Modi claimed in a public meeting in Mumbai that had the Congress party been dissolved on Mahatma Gandhi's advice after India's independence, the country would have been 50 years ahead of its current state. He also criticized the Congress party for making the poor feel as if they were "born to live in poverty", and praised the Modi government for raising 25 crore people out of poverty in the past decade.
