500 young people aged 16-24 underestimated older generations' concern about climate change, according to an EPA-funded ESRI experiment.

New ESRI research finds that young people underestimate how concerned older generations are about climate change. An experiment involving 500 young people aged 16 to 24 discovered that three in four estimated older people's concern to be lower than the actual demographic reported. The EPA-funded study also tested the effect of highlighting generational narratives about climate change, which are commonly used by activists to motivate engagement with the issue. The findings suggest that focusing on generational differences may unintentionally decrease motivation for collective climate action.
