5-year-old girl from Malappuram, Kerala diagnosed with rare brain infection, Primary Amoebic Meningoencephalitis (PAM), caused by contaminated water amoebas. Locally treated initially, she is now on ventilator support at Kozhikode Medical College Hospital. PAM has been reported five times in Kerala since 2016, including the most recent case in 2023. Symptoms include headache, fever, and nausea. Health authorities are monitoring four family members and identifying people who bathed in Moonniyur lake in recent days.
