Nigerian Labour unions rejected the government's N48,000 minimum wage offer and walked out of negotiations.
Organised Labour in Nigeria rejected the Federal Government's offer of a new minimum wage of N48,000 and walked out of the negotiation meeting on Wednesday. The Labour leaders, including Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) President Joe Ajaero and Trade Union Congress (TUC) Deputy President Tommy Okon, expressed disappointment in the government's perceived lack of seriousness in meaningful discussions with workers. The Labour union had proposed N615,000 as the new minimum wage and gave the government until May 31 to finalize negotiations, while the government offered N48,000 and N54,000 by the Organized Private Sector (OPS).
