18-year-old Indigenous man, Robert "Robbie" Malayta, was found dead in the Ross River near Townsville, Queensland, after being involved in a stolen car pursuit. During a pre-inquest conference, it was revealed that Malayta and his older brother Shakur McLennan were fleeing the scene in a stolen red Toyota Corolla. According to McLennan, he saw his brother drop below the water surface and cry out, "big bro, I can't breathe," before disappearing into the darkness. The incident occurred on February 25, 2022.
