60-year-old Nancy Gerwatowski, former Upper Peninsula resident, will stand trial for the 1997 cold-case murder of an infant, known as "Baby Garnet." The infant's remains were discovered in a Garnet Lake campground pit toilet. Gerwatowski is charged with open murder, involuntary manslaughter, and concealing the death of an individual. In 2022, DNA testing confirmed her parentage and resulted in her arrest.
