UN Secretary-General Guterres appoints James Swan as acting special representative for Somalia & head of UN Assistance Mission in Somalia (UNSOM). Swan, a seasoned diplomat, takes over temporarily after UK's Catriona Laing. Somalia's Foreign Minister requested UNSOM termination, but the UN has yet to decide. Swan previously held the UNSOM role from 2019-2022.
