Tennessee Governor Bill Lee has signed legislation allowing the death penalty for child rape convictions. The new law, which goes into effect on July 1st, grants the state the right to pursue capital punishment cases against adults convicted of aggravated rape of a child. Convicted individuals could be sentenced to death, life imprisonment without parole, or life imprisonment.
