Portable pediatric MRI operational at Saskatoon's Jim Pattison Children's Hospital, funded by donations and provincial government support.
Saskatchewan's first portable pediatric MRI is now operational at the Jim Pattison Children's Hospital in Saskatoon, offering less daunting scans for children aged two and older. The equipment, which allows brain scans at bedside, will be used in pediatric intensive care and trauma situations to aid in diagnoses of neurological conditions, including head injuries and suspected abuse. The $1 million purchase was funded through donations, with an additional $419,000 provided annually by the provincial government to support operational costs and an MRI technologist.
