Port of Antwerp-Bruges unveils world's first methanol-powered tugboat, Methatug, as part of greening program and transition towards climate neutrality by 2050.

The Port of Antwerp-Bruges has unveiled the world's first methanol-powered tugboat, Methatug, as part of a greening program for its fleet and a transition towards climate neutrality by 2050. Financed by the European research program Horizon 2020, the Methatug is part of the FASTWATER project which aims to demonstrate the feasibility of methanol as a sustainable fuel for the shipping industry. The 30-meter-long tugboat stores 12,000 liters of methanol and has a 50-ton traction force.
