Police Minister Chris Philp urges increased use of stop and search powers to reduce knife crime.

Police Minister Chris Philp has urged officers to increase their use of stop and search powers to reduce knife crime. Philp claimed that the police are not using stop and search powers "nearly often enough" and called for a "robust approach" to be taken. According to Home Office figures, 100,000 weapons were removed from UK streets between 2019 and 2022, with 40,000 of those seized through stop and search, leading to over 220,000 arrests.
