Man rescued from submerged car in Cape Fear River; Southport Police, Fire Department, and US Coast Guard involved; incident under investigation.
On May 14, a man was rescued from his car submerged in the Cape Fear River after it crashed into Southport's waterfront. Southport Police attempted to throw life preservers but couldn't reach the man, who was later rescued by the Southport Fire Department and US Coast Guard. The individual was transported to a marina for treatment and the submerged vehicle is set to be retrieved. The incident is under investigation by the Southport Police Department.
