Barge collision damages bridge, spills oil, and closes road to Pelican Island in Galveston, Texas.

A barge hit a bridge in Galveston, Texas, damaging the structure, spilling oil into the surrounding waters, and closing the only road to a small island. The bridge to Pelican Island, located just north of Galveston, was hit by the barge around 9:30 a.m. An oil spill occurred due to the collision, and crews are working to clean it up. The Galveston County Sheriff's Office reported that a large piece of the bridge fell.
