32-year-old Valdo Calocane, diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia, will not have his life sentence for murder and attempted murder changed despite his appeal.

Valdo Calocane, who killed three people in Nottingham last year, will not have his sentence changed after the Court of Appeal refused his bid for a "hybrid" life sentence. The 32-year-old, who was diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia, admitted to the manslaughter of Barnaby Webber, Grace O'Malley-Kumar, and Ian Coates, and the attempted murder of three others. The Court of Appeal judges concluded that Calocane's sentence was not unduly lenient, as his paranoid schizophrenia was the sole identified cause of his crimes.
