29-year-old British boxer Sherif Lawal died on May 12 after collapsing during his professional debut match against Portuguese opponent Malam Varela at Harrow Leisure Centre in London. Despite the best efforts of paramedics, Lawal was later pronounced dead at the hospital. The British Boxing Board of Control expressed condolences and cancelled the rest of the scheduled bouts at the event.
