3-year-old Karima Moustapha died in a May 2 arson at a high-rise building on Donald Street in Ottawa, leading to Saeed Osman Mohamed facing a first-degree murder charge. Mohamed was initially charged with three counts of attempted murder, arson with disregard for human life, and other arson-related offences. The fire left two children and a woman critically injured, and more than 200 residents displaced.
