25-year-old Kiwa Ropitini-Fairburn and 24-year-old Tony Marsters, both talented kapa haka performers, died in a house fire in South Auckland's Hillpark suburb, while a third person was seriously injured and remains in hospital. Ropitini-Fairburn, a Ngāti Kahungunu member, had performed with the Kaihaka Kapa Haka group in Dubai, Italy, and China. The victims' families have expressed their devastation over the loss of their loved ones.
