Karnataka High Court awards Rs 8 lakh compensation to family of woman who died on wrong train, ruling Railways liable under Indian Railways Act.
Karnataka High Court overturned Railway Claims Tribunal's decision and awarded Rs 8 lakh compensation to the family of a woman who died after mistakenly boarding a wrong train in 2014. Jayamma and her sister inadvertently boarded Tuticorin Express instead of Tirupati passenger train. The High Court ruled that Jayamma was a genuine passenger and her death resulted from an "untoward incident," making the Railways liable to pay compensation under Section 124A of the Indian Railways Act, 1989.
