Melinda French Gates, co-founder of the $75bn Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, has announced her resignation as co-chair. She is stepping down to focus on her own philanthropic work, which will be supported by an additional $12.5bn. The foundation, formed in 2000, has spent over $50bn addressing global inequities. Bill Gates will become the sole chair of the foundation.
