Amtrak and NJ Transit have announced that the new Portal North Bridge, a key part of the Gateway Project, is now halfway complete and on schedule for completion by 2026. The existing 114-year-old bridge experiences speed restrictions and occasional malfunctions, causing disruptions for daily commuters between New York and New Jersey. The new, fixed-span replacement bridge is expected to improve rail service efficiency.
