Queensland may approve Glencore's $135m carbon capture project to bury 330k tons of CO2 in a large aquifer, despite farm group opposition due to water supply concerns.
Australia's Queensland state will decide whether to approve Glencore's $135m carbon capture pilot project, which aims to bury 330k tons of CO2 in the country's largest aquifer. Farm groups oppose the plan, arguing it poses a risk to water supplies. Glencore's three-year project would pump CO2 from a coal-fired power plant 2.3km underground. The company states that there is no demand for the low-quality water at the pumping site and the CO2 is highly unlikely to spread significantly.
