New research suggests that exercise may be more effective than sleep at flushing toxins from the brain. Scientists from Imperial College London's UK Dementia Research Institute tracked fluid movement in mice brains using a fluorescent dye, and found that the brain's ability to eliminate waste was significantly reduced during sleep. The findings, published in the journal Nature Neuroscience, need to be confirmed in humans.
