California reclassifies Mojave Desert tortoise from threatened to endangered due to rapid decline.

Studies show a loss of around 155,000 adult tortoises from 2004 to 2014. The primary threats to the tortoise include development, military base expansion, livestock grazing, and off-highway vehicle use.
