Dalit activists and relatives accuse Pallikaranai Police of Tamil Nadu of soft-pedalling the murder case of a Dalit man killed for marrying an intermediate caste woman. Praveen, a 26-year-old mechanic, was allegedly hacked to death by Sharmila's brother and four accomplices. The victim's counsel claims that DMK party workers and possibly leaders are shielding the culprits from facing charges.
