Rare northern lights visible in Alabama and southeastern US due to a G5 solar storm.

A strong solar storm brought rare northern lights to Alabama and parts of the southeastern US, visible as far south as Georgia. The magnetic storm, rated a G5 by the Space Weather Prediction Center, could last through the weekend, possibly impacting communication, GPS, power grids, and more. To view the colorful light show, find a dark area with minimal light pollution and view the north sky. Using a cell phone may be more effective at capturing images than the naked eye.
